Take vocabulary and conjugation quizzes
Pick your language, then set the quiz up the way you want it: the theme or the tenses, the difficulty, and four answers to choose from or the answer typed out yourself. Do it to train, or to challenge your friends.
More than 7,000 words and more than a hundred conjugated verbs in the language you pick, free.
Complete content for vocabulary and conjugation
Pick one or two languages to learn, then take vocabulary quizzes on more than 7,000 words across 37 themes, from food and travel to law and technology, each with its own example sentence and its own recording, or conjugation quizzes, with more than a hundred verbs across eight to ten tenses. Work in either direction, out of your own language or into it, picking from several answers to start with or typing yours out for a harder run.
Vocabulary
Vocabulary quizzes that target your gaps
One of 37 themes, a difficulty, a direction. Answer by picking from four options or by typing the word. Whatever you miss comes back, and the app serves you first what you know least: on a theme, the words holding back its next tier. A quiz is 10 to 15 words, five minutes.
Your vocabulary, word by word
Every word carries a level from 0 to 5, per language, and each theme climbs five tiers: tier 3 means all its easy and medium words at level 3 or more. Mark the ones you already know and they stop coming up. The Learn tab shows the whole catalogue as a grid, up to three languages side by side.
Revising for an exam? Build a list of exactly the words you need, up to three lists of 200, and practise only those, alone or in a challenge. When a word has a synonym, pick the one you must learn. Paste or photograph a course sheet and Voc'iz recognises its words. A word it lacks, or lacks in that sense, you can ask for: it joins your list once added. Conjugation has no equivalent.
Conjugation
Conjugation quizzes, verb by verb
More than a hundred verbs per language, eight to ten tenses. Choose the tenses, then the verbs: all of them, the irregulars, the regulars, or a single group. A card gives you a pronoun and an infinitive; you pick the right form or type it.
Every conjugation table, there to consult
The Learn tab also holds the full tables, with a verb search. Open a verb, tap a form to hear it and read its example sentence, translated.
Your conjugation, verb by verb and tense by tense
Conjugation has its own progress, counted separately: a level from 0 to 5 per verb and per tense. Its badges are three tense families, past, present and future. Trophies count both.
Common to both
A quiz picked for you, one tap away
Tell the app your level and up to three goals for each language, such as travel, work or studies. The Quiz tab then opens on a quiz chosen for you, in vocabulary or conjugation, that gets harder as you progress. One tap starts it.
Every word and every form, spoken
Tap to hear any word, in a quiz or in the list. Every word, every synonym and every conjugated form has its own recording, one voice per language.
Challenge your friends, at vocabulary or conjugation
Send a challenge: the same cards for everyone, at vocabulary or at conjugation. Each of you plays separately, then you compare scores and times, card by card. In a group of up to 20, points add up from one challenge to the next.
Titles and badges to collect
On the vocabulary side, each theme earns a bronze, silver and gold badge at tiers 1, 3 and 5; on the conjugation side, three tense families. All of them are earned language by language. Titles follow the rest: words seen, verbs conjugated, quizzes played, challenges won. Wear the one you like beside your name.
Questions
Is Voc'iz free?
Yes. Creating an account takes under a minute, and there is no card and no advertising.
Which languages can I learn?
French, English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian and German, in any pair, in either direction, and conjugation in those same six. The app itself is translated into all six. More languages may follow, depending on your feedback.
Do I need friends to use it?
No. Quizzes work on their own; challenges are there when you want them.
Is there a mobile app?
Yes. Voc'iz is on the App Store and on Google Play, and it runs in any browser too.
Can I hear the words?
Yes. Every word, every synonym and every conjugated form has a recording, one voice per language. Tap the speaker in a quiz, in the vocabulary list or in a conjugation table.
Can I practise conjugation too?
Yes. Choose the language, the tenses and which verbs to practise: all of them, only the irregular ones, only the regular ones, or a single conjugation group. Answer the same two ways as a vocabulary quiz: pick the right form, or type it.
How does the app choose a quiz for me?
From the level you give for each language (one of four), your goals (up to three of seven) and what you have already played. It picks up a theme you started, brings back words that are slipping, or suggests a new theme or a conjugation quiz. As you progress, you move from choosing answers to writing them, and the app offers to change your level when your results call for it.
Learning a foreign language is hard for some people, and I am one of them. My answer is to practise regularly, to keep my memory sharp. But I had no tool other than a notebook to revise vocabulary, work through conjugation drills and write down grammar rules. The apps I tried felt either too slow or too complicated.
So I built Voc'iz over my summer holidays, to revise easily and learn new words in the languages I am learning: English, Spanish and Portuguese. It started as a personal project. I use it every day, so I opened it to everyone. Today Voc'iz is free and has no ads. It is not a company: a paid version is not on the table. If that ever changes, I will say so plainly.
Voc'iz: vocabulary and conjugation, with friends.
